Before Christmas we had 8 schools who took part in a Stinger Bee’s Netball Festival. This was planned and led by the amazing Y10 Sports Leaders from St Mary’s Menston. Schools spent time working on each key skill; passing, footwork, shooting, attack/defence. Then ending with some game play! It was great to see so many children taking part in a fabulous event, watch this space for more Netball!
Sports Leader students from Abbey Grange Academy, planned and ran a Multi Skills festival for over 40 SEND children from local primary schools. They took part in a carousel of activities focused around their fundamental movement skills. The event was a real hit with all the students as you can see from the before and after Chateez ratings!

Last Wednesday we had 15 schools and over 500 Children take part in the Northwest Cross Country! Even though the typical English weather wasn’t on our side, children from Y3-6 took part in a tough course supported by the excellent Y9/10 leaders from Prince Henry’s Grammar School; made even more difficult in the wet and muddy conditions.
It was great to see all the support from fellow runners round the course! The successful runners will qualify for the Leeds Final in February. At least one runner from every school who attended has qualified, which shows the amount of talent we have in this area of Leeds. Congratulations to all!

The National School Games Santa Dash is back again this year on: Friday 9th December!
As in previous years, it really is all about having a bit of fun while being active. Hopefully by taking part in the same event on the same day, schools and pupils will feel they are part of a big event. If your school permits it, I really do think this would be such a wonderful way to spread some Christmas cheer! Make the event to suit your school staff and children's needs, there really isn't a uniform approach to this event.

KS1 Inclusive Festival at Abbey Grange led by sixth form leaders. Children enjoyed taking part in a variety of inclusive games to develop their fundamental movement and teambuilding skills. The leaders created a fun and nuturing environment to maximise the enjoyment of all children.
Seven schools took part in the Leeds North West, School Games basketball festival at Ralph Thoresby HS. The event was supported by City of Leeds Basketball Club who awarded prizes to the MVP from every school. Adel St John were the winners, January 2022

It’s been a busy autumn term with the School Games returning to face to face events. Schools have been making the most of the opportunities and signing up to everything!
Y10 YCB Cricket Leadership Training, Y4 Cricket at Leeds Mods CC, Y3-6 Cross Country at Wharfe Meadows, Y8 Climbing at The Depot, Y8 Golf with Cookridge Hall GC, Y5/6 Come and Try Netball, Y3/4 Dodgeball at Ralph Thoresby, LSNA U11 Netball league games, Y7/8 This Girls Can delivered by YSF. It has been so lovely to see everyone’s smiling faces enjoying PE and sport, learning new skills and enjoying competition within a friendly nurturing environment. A big thank you to the amazing sports leaders from St Mary’s, PHGS, Ralph Thoresby and Guiseley for supporting the delivery of these events.
15 schools and 600 children from Y3-6 participated in the Cross Country event at Wharfe Meadows. The event was greatly supported by Prince Henry’s Grammar School amazing leaders. Qualifying runners will go on to represent Leeds NW in the Leeds final at Temple Newsam February 2022.
5 schools had an amazing time at Yeadon Tarn BMX track 11th March 2020.
British Cycling taught students progressive skills leading up to mastering the full course with confidence, including mini jumps. It was great to utlise a local public facility and children left really hyped up to come back again. A big thank you to British Cycling for providing equipment and coaching.

Places still left at Scholes in December
Yeadon Westfield Junior School was invited to attend the Tour de Yorkshire Trophy tour at the new Brownlee Cycle Centre Bodington Hall on 23rd March 18. Yeadon took part in the schools Tour de Yorkshire cycling relay last summer 2017 and have also since been awarded the Gold Modeshift School Travel Plan award.
The Tour de Yorkshire Race come to Leeds this weekend 4th May. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to observe the pro cyclist racing through the city.
Leeds will deliver the Schools TDY relay again this summer organised by Leeds City Council with the support of Active Schools. The route will cover the South and East side of the city in 2018.

Cycle training in Leeds is currently provided free of charge using funding from the Department for Transport. It is delivered by our contracted provider Cycle Leeds.

The Leeds Cross Country Final took place 21st February 2018 in the glorious setting of Temple Newsam park. Participating schools having qualified from the North West heat in Otley. Approximately 1000 children took part from across the city running a very muddy and hilly course to earn a place in the West Yorkshire School Games.
It was fantastic to see so many young people enjoying long distance running, and this is a credit to primary staff who are delivering programmes such as the daily mile to get children more active.
Schools included: Rawdon Littlemoor, West End, Westbrook Lane, St Margarets, Guiseley, Froebelian, St Joseph's Otley, All Saints, The Whartons, Ashfield and Tranmere Park.
The following schools qualified for the West Yorkshire Schools Games: Rawdon Littlemoor, St Margarets, Westbrook Lane, West End and Tranmere Park.
20 teams from Leeds North West have participated in the Y4/5 Basketball competition this term.
The final was hosted by City of Leeds Basketball Club on Friday 2nd February and the 8 schools who qualified were extremely excited to play at Leeds Becketts Sports arena.
Teams had to be mixed and schools encouraged to bring at least one child who was new to competition. The Department for Health recommends that all children need to be active for at least 60 minutes a day. It is our aim to support schools to achieve this target and engage their least active children.
